Types OF Endoprostheses
Total hip endoprosthesis
- Cementless endoprosthesis with a large diameter head. For most of our patient under 70 years of age we use the above mentioned type. The prosthesis is built in such a way that it prevents the bone growing on the joint surface. Using a large diameter head affords a lot of advantages over the conventional heads because the risk of dislocation is reduced to the minimum. The patient is therefore able to use the toilet without any aids, to sit on low ground, to cross his/her legs, to squat and to move freely. There are no limitations except that of weight bearing (no more than 10 kg) which is common for all types of hip endoprosthesis. The contraindications are severe ostheoporosis and severe growth malformations of the hip.
- Cement endoprosthesis
It is used in cases when a patient suffers from severe ostheoporosis, when a previous endoprosthesis has to be replaced and occasionally in repair of severe growth malformations
