Common characteristic of all endoprostheses with large diametar heads is significantly high stability. Patients with this type of endoprothesis start to walk with two crutches the day after the procedure, applying pressure on the operated leg acoording to their pain tolerance. The fourth day after procedure a patient is released from our hospital and continues with intensive physical therapy in one of nearby rehabilitation hospitals. Some patients have elevated temperature ( up to 38,5º C) in the post-surgery period, which is a normal symptom.
A few days after procedure the patient can move his/her leg in hip up to 90º without danger of joint dislocation. That’s why it’s not neccesary to put height adaptations on a toilet seat or chair, and patient can sit in a car freely. Three weeks after procedure majority of patients start to walk with one crutch (in the hand opposite to the operated leg). Six months after operation a patient is prohibited from lifting heavy loads and doing sudden rotations with the operated hip.
Depending on the patient’s physicall condition and type of implanted endoprosthesis, full recovery and return to everyday activities can be expected in 4 to 8 weeks. Six weeks after the surgery the patient comes to a follow–up exam, following the next one in a three months time, and then after six months. After that period one exam a year is required.
